Even though the vast majority of my fine art photographs are sold on line, I opened this small gallery next door to my studio so that anyone who would like to see my work in real life before making a purchase may do so.
Having a permanent space where I can display my work is important to me for various reasons, but most of all because I treasure the interaction with collectors. It allows me to get a sense of what they’re looking for in a piece and what each of my pieces means to them. In a way, I can rediscover my own work through someone else’s perspective.
My gallery is located in Brownsville. The town itself is a minor tourist attraction due to its location along the Mexican border. Many come here to shop in Mexico, others to reach South Padre Island on the Gulf of Mexico where many Americans and Mexicans alike own condos. One might consider it America’s Riviera on the Gulf of Mexico. Anyone interested in my work may want to plan a long weekend trip to this area it’s certainly a fun place to spend some time. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your thoughts on my work.
I’ve had my work exhibited in other galleries, as part of group shows. Throughout my career I have had had seven one-man shows, including the United Way’s Women Who Make a Difference, Hometown Heroes (ongoing), Champions Against Domestic Violence for the Fort Bend County Women’s Center, A Portrait of Survival for the American Cancer Society and Houston Proud and Tall, a celebration of some of Houston’s great architecture.
Each and every show was a wonderful experience. It’s always a great satisfaction to have your work displayed, but being able to see what it means to others can go beyond simple personal satisfaction. Talking to others about my work and hearing their reactions to it, the emotions it evokes and the stories connected to those emotions has been both inspiring and humbling. Too often we forget that all of us are in some form or another struggling to make our way in the world; it’s fascinating to me how one shot — one frame, frozen in time — can open up a whole world of different interpretations: a world of struggles, success, joy, and pain.
